By the age of 4, Aleks was drawing and by age 13 passed the rigorous tests that allowed him to enter an art school in his home town of Kostroma, about 200 miles northeast of Moscow. Aleks attended an art college in his twenties for the Masters Degree equivalency. With his life’s passion, he moved his family to the United States in 1993 and being an avid student of U.S. History, he achieved his citizenship in 1998.
Kargopoltsev produces realistic and impressionist paintings of landscapes, seascapes, still life, and portraits. Aleks paints Plein Air in the field and holds that mental image until he recaptures it back in the studio. Kargopoltsev believes that painting outdoors results in a combination of color and emotion. What you observe, know, feel, smell, taste, and touch is part of the whole painting.
Since settling in Arlington, Washington, Aleks has taught at the Andersen Center in Edmonds, Mukilteo, Tri-Dee in Mt. Vernon, The Gene Nastri Community School of the Arts, and Alek’s Studio and Art Gallery in La Conner.
Paintings by Aleksandr Kargopoltsev can be found in galleries up and down the Washington and Oregon coast, in addition to private collections around the world.
